Electronic mail, more commonly known as "eMail," is similar to voicemail messaging in a telephone system except that data is communicated instead of a voice recording.

The data is formed similarly to writing a letter, except that it is usually entered with a keyboard, and can support attachments (such as documents, spreadsheets, pictures, audio recordings, videos, etc.), just like postal mail.
